Why do modern cultures have such a strong love affair with doomsday predictions?
Whether it's Mayan calendars, zombies, or robot overlords, we can't seem to let go of an intense fascination with the end of the world.
I've personally been afflicted with this curse since childhood. I was especially fond of watching religious-themed, 'day of reckoning' movies. As I grew into my teenage years, my attention turned more toward post-apocalyptic science fiction, whether in game, book, or movie form.
Over the past few years, I've been stuck on this idea that some people seem to secretly long for oblivion. What is it about the current state of global affairs that makes a zombie apocalypse more appealing than the status quo? Am I one of those people? (I don't think so, but..)
With these and many other questions in mind, I hope to build this site into a collection of all things pertaining to your favorite doomsday scenarios. Doomsday survival guides (both genuine and heavily laden with sarcasm)? Check. Best post-apocalyptic games, books, and movies? Check. Worst post-apocalyptic games, books, and movies? Yeah, probably those, too.
Over the next few days, I'll be adding posts and finalizing the layout of the site for time being. If you have tips, comments, or would just like to see a discussion on your favorite book, game, or movie, leave a note in the comments.
Thanks!
